"Everybody else is doing it" has never been sufficient reason for me to make a choice I knew was wrong. Many people do things without thinking about them, simply because that is the way they have always done it. Societal traditions can hold a person into a life that does not work for them, and they may not even realize what is wrong. Social, familial, or political pressures to conform can often be very intense, and difficult to stand up to.
Our
site is here for the purpose of celebrating those difficult choices
that people make, which are honorable, but which often bring on
great criticism or even abuse from those around them. The choice
to repair a marriage when divorce would have been easier. The choice
to knowingly accept a child with special needs. Choosing to care
for an aging parent yourself for as long as you are able. Choosing
to adopt a child who is unlikely to have a family otherwise. Choosing
to give up a child when you know it is in their best interest. Choosing
to forgive when the world would justify a vengeful attitude. And
so many other hard, often wrenching choices, which are unpopular,
but which take the highest degree of commitment, love, and honor.
